African Warehousing and Logistic (AWL) commenced operations in 2013 due to a demand for dedicated storage facilities for Class 5.1 Ammonium Nitrate (Dangerous Goods) by Mining Services companies operating in the Copperbelt region, Zambia.
Of concern at the time was the erratic transport turnaround time as a result of the number of truckloads of ordered product (dangerous goods) arriving from South Africa, convoy style, directly at customer sites.
The sheer volumes having to be offloaded not only resulted in late and unpredictable vehicle departure and consequential demurrage charges being incurred by customers but also had a negative impact on planned product re-loading schedules at manufacturing sites in South Africa.
With the establishment of the AWL storage facilities, customers product was offloaded from vehicles timeously, securely warehoused and required quantities delivered to customer sites when the need arose.
AWL now receives a range of product and other goods from South Africa and sea ports in neighbouring countries for storage and distribution on behalf of its customers.
During the latter half of 2020, the company acquired five Explosives Magazines in close proximity to the Warehouses in Kitwe, enabling it to offer storage facilities for Class 1 Packaged Explosives and Initiating Systems.
